Lucas Finnell is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who specializes in working with adolescent boys and adult men, while also enjoying working with teens, young adults, and families. His therapeutic approach incorporates Humanistic Psychology, Eco-systemic Structural Family Therapy, Mindfulness, Behavioral Approaches, CBT, and Gottman Method. Lucas helps clients explore and express feelings and emotions in a safe environment, working to understand their real-world experiences and struggles beyond any diagnosis or label.
With a Master's Degree in Clinical/Community Psychology from Point Park University, Lucas brings diverse experience from his journey through IBHS work with Glade Run Lutheran Services, Family Based Therapy through Southwood, and now outpatient counseling. He also supports clients dealing with anxiety, depression, grief and loss counseling, and life transitions.
Lucas works from a strengths-based perspective that recognizes clients as whole individuals within their complex systems, understanding how socioeconomic factors influence daily functioning and relationships. His hope is that through their work together, clients can break away from the constraints that hold them back in work, relationships, and family life, gaining tools to approach challenges and uncertainty with confidence and security.
Outside the therapy room, Lucas enjoys working on and riding his motorcycle and is an avid motorsport enthusiast. He loves building personal computers and gaming, as well as hiking and experiencing the outdoors, especially during fall season.
Lucas's experience in family therapy allows him to understand clients from a systemic perspective, recognizing how various factors in their environment impact their well-being rather than viewing them as isolated individuals.
His background working across multiple therapeutic settings has given him insight into the complex socioeconomic factors that play roles in client functioning and relationships.
With specialized focus on men's mental health and family dynamics, Lucas creates a supportive environment where male clients can safely explore vulnerability and emotional expression.
