Jennie August is a Board Certified Art Therapist and Licensed Professional Counselor who specializes in working with children and teens ages 3-18 but also has experience working with young adults and families. Her therapeutic approach incorporates Art Therapy, Child-Centered Play Therapy, Expressive Arts Techniques, Client-Centered Therapy, and traditional psychodynamic therapy techniques. Jennie's goal as a therapist is to build relationships, help foster connection, develop a safe environment, and maintain space for her clients to build creativity, confidence, hope, and acceptance to reflect, adapt, and grow within their world.
With a degree in Art Therapy with a Specialization in Counseling from Seton Hill University along with a certification in Autism Spectrum Disorders, Jennie brings diverse experience to her practice. Before working in an outpatient setting, she worked in Wraparound Services, working closely with children and families in the home and school environments. She also supports clients dealing with mood disorders, childhood trauma, family dynamic changes including divorce, childhood depression, transitional issues, separation anxiety, self-esteem issues, and social skill deficits.
Jennie provides a safe and supportive place for clients to explore and create.
Outside the therapy room, Jennie spends time going on adventures and being creative with her husband and four children. In her free time, she enjoys reading suspense/mystery novels, baking yummy treats, and working out.
Expertise in helping children build self-regulation and self-confidence, identify feelings and needs, and build coping skills to more effectively navigate through challenges.
Works with teens and young adults to build safety, confidence, advocacy skills, explore and repair the inner child, and increase overall well-being to reach personal goals and build healthy relationships.
With specialized certification in both art therapy and autism spectrum disorders, Jennie offers unique therapeutic approaches that engage children and teens through creative expression.
