Ben Vivio is a Licensed Professional Counselor who enjoys working with individuals who want to learn how to tap into vulnerability and empathy—this includes men, police officers/public safety, and veterans. He also enjoys working with clients who are going through life changes and assisting with establishing a foundation and feeling safe/grounded—this includes people in recovery, grief/loss, and other life-changing existential changes. His therapeutic approach incorporates Gestalt therapy, DBT, Existential Psychotherapy, and ERP, and he is open to learning about and utilizing spirituality and religious practices when it meets the clients' specific needs.
Ben has completed the Gestalt Institute of Pittsburgh's two-year post-graduate training program and will be starting a third year advanced course in September 2025. He has 6 years working with individuals with TBI and neurodevelopmental disorders and 5 years in substance use counseling. He also supports clients dealing with anxiety, bipolar disorder, grief, relationship difficulties, LGBTQ+ issues, existential changes/growth, trauma, infidelity, traumatic brain injury, and neurodevelopmental disorders.
One of his favorite quotes relating to therapy is, "Man transcends himself only via his true nature, not through ambition and artificial goals." - Fritz Perls.
Outside the therapy room, Ben enjoys traveling, learning about different cultures, and experiencing life away from the screens. He enjoys playing guitar and bass and seeing live music when able. His wife, their 2 senior sister dogs (Lodi and Fiki), his family, and friends remind him to take time to laugh and not take life too seriously.
He is just as much of a human being as you are, and this shows in the work that he does.
He brings humor, stories, music, art, and personality into the work as a means of building trust, compassion, and empathy.
Specialized training in Gestalt therapy and extensive experience with both addiction and neurodevelopmental disorders.

"We live in a world of 'shoulds' based off of noise heard on social media, TV, and 'motivational influencers.' My goal in therapy is to assist clients with gaining awareness of their true and authentic selves to instill the freedom to choose the life that is best for them."
